SoundCloud’s mission as an artist first platform is to connect artists with their fans and give them the progressive tools, services, and resources needed to grow a sustainable music career. SoundCloud strives to serve as a platform to push and nurture music culture.
SoundCloud continues their innovative committment to put artists first by positioning themselves as a centralized ecosytem for independent musicians, artists, and DJs with an all encompassing distribution and monetization package.
The economic disenfranchisement of Black musicians and creatives is a well documented historical issue. With artists such as Big Mama Thornton, Richard Berry, and Bob Marley having their popular songs re-recorded and released with no royalties for their creative works. Artists like Prince and Shaka Khan struggled for decades to hold onto the rights of their songs and claim royalties.
The core concept of this campaign is about ownership and moving forward with no limits. The creators that I have cited in this document are constantly pushing the limits of their creativity and the platforms they distribute their content are. Whether it be through sketches, reviews, or music themselves, these creatives believe everyone has the opportunity to grow.
